Welcome Back From Dr. Lawson

It brings me great joy to welcome all of our Ames Community School District students and families to the 2022-23 school year!

The opening of schools is a special time for our community, and as I enter my 21st year in education, seeing smiling faces and hearing students and staff engaged on the first day still fills my heart with joy. From our exciting pre-school, awesome elementary sites, power-packed Middle School, on to our brand new High School, it is a great time to study, learn, and grow in the Ames Community School District.

In Ames, we are committed to the success of our students and providing a high-quality educational experience. Throughout our district, you’ll find passionate educators working each day to help ensure equitable outcomes for every student – including helping them overcome the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The past few years have been challenging, and we know we still have work to do to successfully re-engage and reconnect every student with the tools they need to reach their full personal and educational potential. We are committed to empowering our students to achieve at high levels. We are committed to moving Ames. Forward. Together.

The teaching and learning occurring within our classrooms is at the heart of our district, and I will work each day to support and nurture these vital interactions between teachers and students to ensure that every child thrives. We have the capacity to do amazing things…and we will.

I’m excited and proud to be a part of the Ames Community School District, and to be in a position to lead our amazing district and its extraordinary young people in the direction of success.

I wish all our students and their families a successful, happy, and safe school year.

Let’s Go Little Cyclones!
